Explore our premium range of refractory materials custom-engineered to withstand the intense thermal, chemical, and physical stresses of modern industrial furnace linings.
Refractory Silica Bricks represent a cornerstone material in high-temperature industrial manufacturing. Composed of at least 96% silicon dioxide (SiO2), these specialized acid refractories are uniquely engineered to retain structural integrity at temperatures that would cause other materials to fail. The key to their performance lies in their precise mineralogical composition, consisting primarily of tridymite, cristobalite, and a minimal amount of residual quartz.
Unlike basic refractories, silica bricks show remarkable thermal volume stability at elevated temperatures. Once they pass their critical expansion phase (below 600°C), they remain completely stable up to their softening point, which sits exceptionally close to their actual melting point (around 1650°C to 1710°C). This unique characteristic makes them indispensable for massive, load-bearing structures such as glass melting furnace crowns and coke oven walls, where thermal fluctuations must not translate into structural shifting.
Furthermore, their chemical resistance to acidic slags, dust, and volatile gases ensures that they do not react with the process atmosphere. As industries push for higher operational efficiencies, the demand for high-purity, low-flux silica refractories has surged, driving manufacturers to adopt stricter raw material selection and advanced firing profiles.

With scientific management, advanced technology and equipment, and strict quality control process, SK Refractories can ensure the high quality of the refractory bricks for industry furnace.
The industrial landscape for refractory silica bricks is undergoing a significant transformation. Driven by the expansion of the global glass manufacturing market—particularly for solar glass, high-end electronics, and container glass—the demand for high-quality silica refractories has reached historic highs. As glass manufacturers transition to larger, more energy-efficient melting furnaces, the structural demands on the furnace crown (superstructure) have intensified.
Concurrently, the global steel industry relies heavily on coke production, where coke ovens require refractory materials with exceptional thermal conductivity and mechanical strength. Modern coke ovens are designed to operate continuously for decades. This means the silica bricks used in their construction must resist chemical attack, mechanical wear, and thermal stress over a 20-to-30-year lifespan. Any premature failure results in catastrophic downtime and millions of dollars in losses.
To meet these rigorous commercial demands, the refractory industry is shifting toward high-purity raw materials. Minimizing impurities like alumina (Al2O3), titania (TiO2), and alkalis is critical, as even fractions of a percent of these fluxes can dramatically lower the refractoriness under load. The market is increasingly prioritizing suppliers who can guarantee precise chemical composition and tight dimensional tolerances, ensuring seamless installation and extended service life.
Our commitment to rigorous testing and automated manufacturing processes ensures that every batch meets global standards.
SK Refractories is well known in domestic markets and abroad for the quality of refractory bricks. The refractory materials produced by SK Refractories have been exported to more than 35 countries such as America, Spain, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Belgium, India, Japan, Korea, etc. The main products include Silica Brick, low porosity fireclay blocks, Sillimanite Brick, Corundum Brick, Zircon Brick, Mullite Brick, Insulating Bricks, refractory castables and refractory mortar of related materials.
Our quality control protocol involves comprehensive testing of raw materials, in-process monitoring during pressing and firing, and post-production verification of physical properties including apparent porosity, cold crushing strength, refractoriness under load, and dimensional accuracy.
From the crown of a glass tank to the complex checkerwork of a hot blast stove, silica bricks are deployed in environments of extreme heat and chemical stress.
The crown of a glass tank is subjected to intense radiant heat (often exceeding 1580°C) and corrosive alkali vapors rising from the batch. Silica bricks are the material of choice here because they do not drip glass phase into the melt, which would cause defects in the final glass product.
The major engineering challenge is managing the thermal expansion during the initial heat-up phase. The brick expands significantly between 200°C and 600°C as quartz transforms into cristobalite and tridymite. Precise heat-up curves and adjustable tie-rods on the furnace steelwork are critical to preventing structural failure during commissioning.
Coke ovens require wall materials that can transfer heat efficiently from the combustion chamber to the coal charge while resisting mechanical abrasion from the coke pushing process. Silica bricks, with their high thermal conductivity at working temperatures and excellent resistance to carbon deposition, are ideal.
The bricks must also withstand the thermal shock when cold coal is charged into the red-hot oven. High-density, low-porosity silica refractories are engineered specifically for this application to minimize gas leakage and maximize mechanical wear resistance.
In ironmaking, hot blast stoves preheat the air blown into the blast furnace. The combustion chamber and upper checkerwork experience high temperatures and cyclic thermal loading. Silica bricks are utilized in the hottest zones because they maintain structural integrity under load at these temperatures.
Their stability ensures that the checkerwork channels do not collapse or deform, maintaining efficient airflow and heat exchange over decades of continuous operation.
When a furnace crown suffers localized wear during a campaign, standard silica bricks cannot be used for hot repairs because they would shatter from thermal shock when introduced to the hot furnace. This is where Zero-Expansion Silica Bricks (Fused Silica Bricks) come in.
Made from fused silica, these bricks have an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, allowing them to be inserted directly into a running furnace at 1200°C without cracking, enabling critical hot repairs that extend the furnace campaign.
Our obligation is to supply high quality refractory materials and service to achieve long lifetime of high temperature furnaces. SK Refractories will always improve himself to provide better refractory products and service to the customers all over the world.
The refractory industry is entering a new era defined by environmental sustainability and digital manufacturing. One of the most significant upcoming challenges is the transition of glass and steel furnaces from natural gas to green hydrogen combustion. Hydrogen combustion generates significantly higher levels of water vapor in the furnace atmosphere. This changes the chemical dynamics, accelerating the volatilization of silica from the brick surface.
To combat this, SK Refractories is investing in research to develop next-generation silica bricks with optimized microstructures and specialized protective coatings that minimize vapor penetration and surface erosion. By controlling the pore size distribution and reducing total apparent porosity, we can significantly inhibit the diffusion of gaseous species into the brick matrix.
Furthermore, the integration of AI-driven kiln controls in our production facilities allows for real-time monitoring of the sintering process. This ensures that the conversion of raw quartz into tridymite and cristobalite is complete and uniform throughout the entire brick volume, eliminating internal micro-cracks and ensuring maximum thermal shock resistance for our clients' high-temperature applications.
From heavy-duty industrial kilns to specialized glass regenerators, we supply a comprehensive range of high-temperature refractory solutions engineered for maximum service life.
