As Slovakian steel mills transition from coal-fired blast furnaces to hydrogen-based direct reduction iron (DRI) processes and Electric Arc Furnaces, the combustion environment inside the furnaces is changing drastically. Hydrogen combustion generates significantly higher levels of water vapor, which accelerates the degradation of conventional refractory linings via oxidation and structural spalling.
